The Indians of Pennsylvania
Before, Penn and the Quakers settled Pennsylvania they had to encounter many different Indian Tribes. Though there were many encountered some of the more famous ones were the Delawares, Shawnees and Susquehannocks. The Delawares lived among the basin of the Delaware River. They spoke Algonkian like many other tribes. Due to the White pressure, they moved down to the Wyoming Valley. Many of them later took sides on the French side of the French-Indian war. The Shawnees came from the west in the 1690's. They aided the French in the French-Indian war. Last the Susquehannocks were an Iroquoian speaking tribe who lived along the Susquehanna. They were quickly killed by the disease brought by the English and the other tribes that lived there. Penn and the Quakers made a fair peace treaty with the many tribes they encountered.
